“With Double L” is a creative portfolio which is divided into 4 volumes with different themes: photography, illustration, design, typography. It is a sample of all projects throughout my career with a differentiating factor, in addition, to show my work speaks for me as a person, explains stories, experiences and feelings that have made me who I am, shows my personal growth. So anyone who reads it known me as a person as well as professional, because after all, we all work with people. The “Double L” concept is given by my surname “Llerda” a weird surname, most people do not know how to write it, so I adapted the habit of overtaken when I say it to other people, so I say, Laura Llerda… With double L.
In the 4 volumes there are the same number of chapters, and the same number of pages, so that everything follows the same structure, since all 4 volumes or issues are equally important to me, so you can see reflected. All contents are home to over the years realization, and all texts have been created exclusively for this project.
Potentiation of the concept
To follow I represent the concept of the project, I applied as chapter headings words beginning with double ele, thus reinforcing the idea. These words have meaning, like the titles of all the stories have been previously thought and can be seen reflected in the texts their meaning. Once we have the concept reflected in the title and chapter titles, as well as strengthen it on the inside pages? Emphasizing all the “LL” appearing along the 4 volumes, and thus ensures that the reader will also get to remember how to write my name correctly. The covers, in addition to showing the book title, also represented by the letter L. geometric shapes has been applied the same design on the front and back to reinforce the concept that is “double ele” and applied symmetrically to join both the spine of the book, representing the duality that my name has never liked but part of me. To still give more value to the concept, it is also representing this Double Ele on the packaging containing the 4 volumes. Applying the same L-shaped in the front, and also leaving just enough space for the contrasting black packaging with white Tomes, so that there is space to see the title of the books. The reticle is modular because it allows great flexibility and many possibilities for different compositions with modules. Has been applied grid basis taking into account the font that is applied, and the line spacing, from this margins were adjusted and then the columns were created, since they created 6 horizontal divisions through the base grid, it was decided to create 6 vertical divisions to facilitate the creation of symmetrical compositions.
I apply two typefaces, Brandon Grotesque, which is used for titles or subtitles. This is a geometric sans serif typeface, which I like much by its forms and rounded edges. I have always liked these fonts, so I think I represent very well in my portfolio. To generate contrast, in the text blocks I wanted to use a font with serifs, in this case the Times Regular, well this fits better with my concept and types of text that would apply in the books, because they are texts something poetic.
Layout / Reticle
I applied in all text alignment left without justify trying to imitate the style layout of text books of poetry, sought the structure aligned to the left and mark the different stanzas of poetry (although my texts are not poetry, seek to imitate in some way). The numbering of the pages are applied to the sides rather than at the bottom of the pages, to break a bit with the classic structure of the layout thus obtained a differentiating point in the composition, in addition to generating a symmetry in pages, since it is always applied on opposite sides. As for the margins of the grid, I decided to apply ternary margins, for good readability, wide margins that allow the reader to rest your eyes and that the contents stand out on the pages, and that will focus reader in the text, keeping large blanks for the text to breathe and that the composition was proportional.
